LEIGHTON — Hatton Elementary School is observing this week's national Great Kindness Challenge with activities daily, all of which are designed to help others.

Included in the week's events is the Kind Coins Drive for the Kruz'n for a Kure Foundation, which is raising money for research on a rare and fatal type of dwarfism, Schimke immuno-osseous dysplasia. Two Tuscumbia children, Kruz and Paizlee Davenport, are diagnosed with the disease.

Proceeds will also go to the Healing Place and for Courage like Cami.

Hatton guidance counselor Amanda Green said the school's 276 students will participate in activities throughout the week.
